Train Spotting Filstal

It’s been time again to go out for a little train spotting to take some new photos. It was also the chance to test my „new“ manually operated 200mm telephoto lens in daily use.
Only this time not Eislingen was the destination, but two other stations farther up the Fils Valley: Suessen, and Geislingen, starting point of the well known Geislinger Steige.
Sadly the outward run was through mostly sulky wet weather. The other day the weather had changed to the better, being barely cloudy with an occational sunshine. The final day again was typical for this year’s winter, it was sleeting at a strech. But during the return trip I was lucky, and the rain really stopped. Behind Stuttgart I even could take some cab-view „action-shots“.

The only thing now left to say is Thank You … to the engineer who offered me a clear few on the track ahead, and of course to my old friend, for again bearing with me for a day, or two, or three 🙂
And now enjoy the images.

Water & Train Spotting

Since my younger days – that’s really „some“ time ago – two things always caught my photographic attention:
Flowing water and, of course, trains.

Very recently, while visiting a long-time friend of mine, I went out to take some bulb exposures of water flowing though a winterly landscape. But, as chance would have it, I forgot to take the map with me marked with all the sites I wanted to see.
So I took it as it came, and after two hours and a bit taking frosty water pictures in frosty air, I walked over to the train station.

There I recorded any train passing during the last hour of sufficient daylight … you can believe me, the setting sun didn’t become warmer. So I was quite happy, to step into the warmth of a heated train for some last views out into the passing night.

Although quite a frosty experience with my first true winter photography trip, it was simply a great time – thanks a lot to my old friend making this, at least in part, possible.
