Train .. Water .. Motion

Train Spotting, ein schon seit der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts bekannter Bereich der Fotografie. Die Bandbreite der Motive reicht dabei von Technik in der Natur, über das Einfangen der Dynamik eines bewegten Zugs, bis hin zur reinen Dokumentation des Was, Wann, Wo.
Während Train Spotting in England und den USA etwas durchaus „alltägliches“ ist, wird es in Kontinentaleuropa eher „belächelt“ und manchmal sogar noch heute, auch in Deutschland, auf Bahnhöfen oder nahe einer Bahnstrecke von Ordnungskräften unterbunden.

Mir persönlich ist allerdings Train Spotting alleine etwas zu wenig.
Daher beinhaltet … Spotting für mich zusätzlich das allgemeine Erfassen von Bewegung an einem definiertenm Ort oder von einem definierten Objekt – sowohl in statischen Momentaufnahmen, als auch in fließenden Langzeitbelichtungen.

Train Spotting, a particular part of photography that is known since the first half of the 20th Century. The range of subjects goes from the combination of technology and nature, thru capturing the dynamics of a train-movement to the pure documantation of what, where, and when.
While train spotting has nothing spectacular in UK and the U.S., it is often smiled at in continental Europe, and sometimes even today, and even in Germany, rail marshals try to prevent photographers from taking pictures at stations or beneath the track.

From my personal view, pure train spotting is a bit to narrow in scope.
Therefore … Spotting to me furthermore means capturing any kind of motion, either at a defined location, or of a single objective – both in static snapshots and in flowing bulb exposures.
